Reviewing the Madrid Confessions

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Regular listeners of The Monday Podcast may remember that I visited Madrid last year to take part in the Great Madrid Escape, an event organised by Ben Curtis and Marina Diez from NotesFromSpain.com.

Last week Ben released an audio book: “The Madrid Confessions”, telling the story of different parts of his life after arriving in Spain up until the present day.

I was lucky enough to pick up an early tweet about the book and download it early.  I’ve reviewed it in this week’s podcast:

Aussichtsturm Ellerhöhe

Aussichtsturm Ellerhöhe

Aussichtsturm Ellerhöhe

Hidden away on the northern side of Bad Homburg is a viewing platform called the Aussichtsturm Ellerhöhe.

It was originally built in 1873, re-built in 1889 and extended in 1901.  The top of it is approximately 200m above sea level.

Although the tower itself is only about 16m tall, it does offer a view across the town of Bad Homburg to Oberursel, and even as far as Frankfurt.

In fact, many local people do not even know that it is there!

Frankfurt-Eschborn Cityloop

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Each year on 1st May (Maifeiertag) the main road out of Oberursel is closed off for a cycle race which this year was re-named as the “Frankfurt-Eschborn Cityloop”.  This means that for anything up to 2 hours we are unable to get out of our road.  Even the U-Bahn stops running!

The answer, of course, is to either get out early or to stay and watch the race – and the drivers arguing with the police that they need to go somewhere.

My daughter and I opted for the 2nd option this year.  To find out more, listen to the podcast:
